Although sports medicine may form a significant part of their work, most practitioners have minimal or no formal training at an undergraduate or postgraduate level.

Students who enter the MHPS with current Exercise Science Accreditation (AES) with Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA), may also be eligible for ESSA Accredited Sports Science Level 1 (ASpS1) accreditation, upon graduation from the MHPS. The Master of Sport Development and Management (MSpDM) is a 180-point coursework postgraduate degree designed for individuals who are employed in Sport Development and Management and want to upskill for professional development reasons. It is also intended as a pathway for those students graduating with a BSc or BA majoring in Sport Management and Development (or comparable qualification) into employment in the field.

The Master of Science (MSc) is a two-year degree which encompasses both coursework and research. The first year involves mainly coursework and preliminary research preparation. Students will have the opportunity to contribute to existing fields of research, or to begin to develop new areas.
