Welcome to the Michigan State University Student Investment Association!
The Student Investment Association (SIA) is an undergraduate student organization in the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University that was started in 2004. Our mission is to educate undergraduates about investing through our real-money portfolio, educational seminars, professional speakers, and investing competitions. Today, we have over 100 members and have grown our small-cap value portfolio in excess of $30,000.

Gain Real-World Experience
In SIA, selected members have the opportunity to recommend stocks for selection into our portfolio. The Analyst Program is designed to give SIA members investment research and valuation experience. Analysts are split into teams which are sector-agnostic and present a stock pitch for inclusion into our $30,000 portfolio at the end of the semester.
Analysts work under a Lead Analyst to build a stock pitch for the semester. Teams usually have four to five Analysts who work and present their pitch together.
Students interested in the Analyst Program must go through a rigorous interview process and attend all educational meetings. No experience is needed and you do not have to be a business major to apply.

Explore Careers In Financial Services
Our Educational Series teaches students about the investment process and our fundamental value lens. During the Educational Series you will learn skills such as financial modeling, valuation, and business strategy. During our Sunday Dinner & Learn meetings, we teach hands-on skills in small groups to help answer any questions. These are skills that will be valuable no matter your career.
We also focus on teaching students about various careers in both the sell-side and buy-side. Members learn about different financial institutions and the skills necessary to be successful. We also bring in several speakers throughout the academic year.

Manage A Portfolio
We take a fundamental approach to our investments with a medium-to-long-term investment horizon. We attempt to find equities that we believe the market has unfairly discounted. We do this by approaching from a bottoms-up lens to identify stocks that we believe will return alpha and generate risk-adjusted returns which are greater than the Russell 2000.
SIA members also have the opportunity to join our Portfolio Management Team. This group helps maintain our portfolio by conducting portfolio analytics, risk analysis, portfolio composition, and determining exit strategies. The Portfolio Management Team gives updates on the portfolio and an in-depth review of the portfolio each semester.
